Join us in Lighting Global Landmarks (RED) this World AIDS Day - December 1st

December 1st is World AIDS Day and we’re illuminating the world’s most iconic landmarks (RED) to raise awareness of the goal of an AIDS Free Generation due in 2015. Last year nearly half a million babies were born with HIV. But with access to medication a pregnant mother can stop the transmission of HIV to her child. With continued funding to organizations like the Global Fund, the number of babies born with HIV could be zero by 2015 – creating the first AIDS Free Generation in 30 years.

This World AIDS Day, cities around the world will light their most distinctive landmarks (RED). From the Sydney Opera House, to Paris' City Hall & Fountains, from the London Eye, to Cape Town’s Table Mountain, from Niagara Falls, to the Seattle Space Needle - the world will turn red to highlight the goal that by 2015 we can have a world where virtually no child is born with HIV.

Be sure to check and see if landmarks in your city are turning red. We’re asking people to Meetup there to watch and discuss how we can help create the first AIDS Free Generation. If you don’t find an existing Meetup to join, you can always create your own Meetup and help put your city on the map.

We hope you’ll be with us as we watch as the world goes (RED) on December 1st and help us make the possibility of an AIDS Free Generation a reality. You can also see all the landmarks on the map of the world that we will be turning (RED) on World AIDS Day – literally!

Here’s a full list of the landmarks that will light red on December 1st. A special thanks to Sister Cities International for their help and support during this campaign.

I really wish there was an event like this in Washington DC! We do have a terrible 3% infection rate after all. :(

All things considered, this should be a beautiful event. I love everything the (RED) project has been doing, so please continue!

I wish MX City turned (RED). They've already got the infrastructure, all that's lacking is the will.

Wondering where Sweden is. We're very much involved with charity and making the world better from sickness and so on. Little bit suprised we're not in this event.

For an example we could light up the Sony Ericsson Globe or something. Usually it's turned pink; so why not red?

Maybe this can be something for next year then. I'll try to look it up!

What a surprise there's only one city from South Africa and only ONE country from Africa since we have the highest HIV/AIDS rates in the world.
