Those of you in the UK might remember the striking American Express RED advertisement that paired supermodel Gisele Bundchen with Masaai warrior Keseme Ole Parsapaet. If you haven't seen the image, you can take a look here.
This week, the Associated Press caught up with Keseme to learn about his life in Kenya. Here's my favorite part:
"Anyone seeing that shot of the supermodel and the Maasai herdsman, which has adorned billboards and the pages of Vogue as part of a campaign to fight AIDS in Africa, might well wonder: What was going through his mind?
'To be honest all I was thinking about when I was with this woman was my cattle and goats,' Keseme Ole Parsapaet told The Associated Press, confessing to sleepless nights worrying about who was looking after his herd."

i read this article in USA Today online this past week, and posted about it in zootopia (u2 fanclub). and after being beside such a lovely girl, what else is he going to tell his wife? . . . ."honey, my mind was on the herd all the time." LOL seriously, this good man Parsapaet . . . . . he saw London and still wanted to go home and stay home. he could have moved away from the AIDS and tuberculosis and malaria infested regions, could be comfortable in our obscene comforts of the west. and he as a face in a model shoot of this magnitude could probably get a job and resettle in the UK or anywhere, but there's no place like home. his home sounds quite rural and simple and he's proud to be there, and has extended hospitality and would this model drink the bloodlaced milk in lieu of a bottle of Dom Perignon? we don't know. but i'm very proud of his decision.
and we purchase product (red) items to improve life in his region, a region we embrace and lobby for and love and pray for. and these people are home and love their home . . . . . good attitudes, hardworking, regal, royal people who just in our lifetime need a leg up, need and deserve a spot at the conference tables of the world.
welcome friend. i'd so glad you've chosen to stay home where the streets have no names. and not because you may not have had a choice, but because, well, there's no place like home . . . .
stay close parsapaet . . . . .
where can I see the photo of the Maasi and the model Gisele?
