An INSPI(RED) Night at The Aloha Stadium

Every now and then (lately, more "now" than "then"), someone brings something to my attention that I want to bring to your attention.

A group of (RED) friends and some dedicated U2 fans have banded together to turn Aloha Stadium (RED) during the final show on U2's Vertigo tour in December.

They’ve created a webpage about it here: http://www.geocities.com/onehonolulu/.

91 people have already responded that they are traveling to the show and how they will support (RED) here: http://pub44.bravenet.com/guestbook/3710582405/ (amazing to see how far you're all traveling!).

Thank you all for bringing your (RED) spirits to the show and organizing such a fun and inspiring gathering. Some (RED) team members may be at that show and will keep an eye out for you.

I also wanted to highlight this in case some of you are going to the show and wanted to meet up with other (RED) people there.

Please take pictures and post to them to the (RED) moblog! E-mail your (RED) photos to moblog@joinred.com and they will be posted. You can e-mail the photos from your camera phone, too! Look forward to watching Honolulu turn (RED).

Mahalo,

African Miracle

Bobby just emailed us a link to a story entitled African Miracle, from the latest (Dec. 4) issue of TIME magazine. The story visits some children in Africa with HIV who, once sickly and frail, are now receiving antiretroviral medicine and can go on living as little kids.

But as the story says, the work is just beginning. Because of the people buying (RED) products (you!), (RED) sends money to the Global Fund so that doctors in Africa can perform their lifesaving work. We love reading stories like this because it gives us hope.

Be sure to take a look at the amazing bef0re-and-after photos of an 8-year-old boy named Bokang.

Also, if you missed seeing the Los Angeles Times' front page photo of "ORPHANS OF AIDS" and the accompanying photo essay, go to latimes.com/aids for the online photo gallery. There are some truly moving, beautiful pictures.

A very (RED) Friday indeed

Wow! I had a fun (RED) Friday.

I woke up with the memory of seeing the (RED) Manifesto on MTV Networks channels on Thanksgiving evening… it was fun flipping through a bunch of MTV and VH1 channels to see the same thing across all their channels! In case you missed it, here's a screenshot ;)

After breakfast I braved the malls to check out people shopping (RED) – and I got myself a few more (RED) items for holiday gifting next month.

Then the highlight of the day: Seeing the Dixie Chicks at Staples Center with my good friend Greg! I had never seen them before, and I was thrilled by how great their vocals were and how tight their band was. (Thanks for taking me, Greg!)

Even more exciting, the Chicks played the (RED) Manifesto on the big screens before they got onstage to help spread the word about (RED)! I took a photo, though it's hard to see the crowd, so here's a picture of the lovely folks at the show, too :)

Hope you all had a great holiday!

INSPI(RED) designs

We're making a series of (RED) postcards (not for sale) to send to our friends and associates for the holidays, and as a last-minute idea, we thought our (RED) friends might want to create some postcards.

I posted a MySpace bulletin to (RED)'s friends asking for postcard submissions. Within hours, my inbox was flooded with postcards designed by you.

Because of the tight print deadline, we ended up not being able to use any of the submissions, but I wanted to post some of them here for you to see.

Here are two of my favorites:

(RED)ISCOVER JOY by Robert, and Love by Melissa.

But wait, there are more!!

I'm uploading more designs to our (RED) Moblog. Take a look, we have some amazing designers and artists among us.

You can also can share your designs and photos by emailing pictures to moblog@joinred.com. You can also see the moblog on the right column of (BLOG) RED below.

GLAMOU(RED)

Hello again. I have some updates to share with you as well as some re-posts for people who are new(er) to our blog.

If this entry feels a bit disjointed, it's because I'm a bit distracted! The (Emporio Armani) RED collection just hit stores and I can't wait to leave and go shopping. We've had pictures of some of the new items up in our office for a couple weeks and there's a shirt (among other things) I've been dying to get. You may have seen the shirts on Oprah - they have African symbols on them and are really soft. For more info, visit http://emporioarmaniproductred.com

Also, we just got some great video footage of the Armani One Night Only event that took place in London on September 21. There's a speech by Bono, Bobby introducing the Armani (RED) Collection, and live performances by 50 Cent, Razorlight, and Beyonce. You can watch it here: [Windows Media] [Quicktime]

If you read SHA(RED) IDEAS, you saw the fabulous Blog Badge Tim sent in. The blog badge is a great way to show your support for (RED) and has been popping up around the blogosphere ever since. Some of you asked for a (RED) ribbon to place on the corner of your blogs and websites. Many thanks to Matt and Word of Blog for creating our (RED) ribbon. You can get the (RED) badges and ribbon here. Check back regularly - Matt has offered to create some more ribbons... perhaps some (RED) words.

On November 15th we're relaunching Joinred with a video wall. Now you'll have a chance to show the world (YOU) RED. Find out how to get your video on the homepage by clicking here.

For those of you who may just be coming across our blog, I wanted to highlight some posts you might want to read:
  • For a personal account of our U.S. launch, click here
  • A Little Girl Named Denyse
  • MEASU(RED) RESULTS
  • Get featured on our blog. Read CO-STAR(RED) to find out more.
Feel free to browse the archives to read more posts from various (RED) team members.

Some of the (RED) team WeeMees have gone on a field trip. Create your own (RED) WeeMee and join us on the moon!

Ok, I'm off to go shopping. Have a great weekend!

TOU(RED) - Hotel Cafe Tour hits the East Coast

The drive up the New Jersey turnpike will never be the same again—the trip from Philadelphia (I don’t know that I have enough street-cred to call it “Philly”) to New York was dotted with billboards, bus signs and benches baring the (RED) message and paving the way to a city full of energy, hope, and encouragement. Every square foot of New York ad-space and store front broadcasted Assu(RED), Hono(RED), Cente(RED), Desi(RED) or Inspi(RED). (RED) was every where we looked. I couldn’t walk a block without someone from our little troupe pointing at me saying, “Look Aubrey, it’s YOU!!” (My name and (RED) are now interchangeable on this tour.)

(RED) is now a ubiquitous force to be reckoned with. We sold out both of our New York shows, and every artist on this tour has pretty much over-whelmed the East coast with amazing music, charisma, and passion. And we’ve been received with equal amounts of enthusiasm. I cannot come close to counting the number of Desi(RED) t-shirts that come my way each night or of people begging for the (RED) iPod, asking when some of the GAP items will be restocked, or anxious to purchase a (RED) Motorola razr. Larger cities are generally a bit more privy to what’s happening with (RED), but the extent of our welcome was still unexpected. America has embraced (RED) in ways that I would never have been able to guess, except that I’ve had the privilege of seeing and feeling it first hand. It’s unreal.

By the way, (RED) and our little community of traveling minstrels are headed to Europe… Watch out!
Tom McRae and Joe Purdy. Chillin'.

    Practicing in the parking lot.

    Professor Gordon wearing (RED).

    No comment, really.

CO-STAR(RED): a moblog for (YOU) RED

If you've scrolled down (BLOG) RED in the last hour, you might have seen a new feature that we've added to the sidebar: a moblog! Now you can send us your own (RED) photos and they'll go up in the sidebar. We've seen some great photos of you on MySpace wearing (RED) items and holding (RED) phones -- we want to collect them all here.

You're the star now -- show us how you've joined (RED)!

Speaking of (RED) stars, here's a great feature titled "Woman on the Verge," about Penelope Cruz in the Los Angeles Times.

Penelope has been an amazing friend of ours, appearing in ads for Gap (PRODUCT) RED and also on The Oprah Winfrey Show to tell the world why she supports (RED). She plays Raimunda, a working-class mother, in her new movie "Volver," in theaters today, which the LA Times calls "a career-making role" that Penelope plays "with an emotional depth that few might have trusted she could pull off." Penelope is a remarkable woman and actor, and we hope you enjoy learning more about her in this story, too!

    Measu(red)

It's been just under 3 weeks since we launched (RED) in the U.S. and we already have some exciting news to report.

(PRODUCT) RED sales in the U.S. in just two and half weeks have raised enough money to:

Provide more than 10,000 men or women with ARV treatment for a year
(Note: These treatments are only a small portion of a person’s overall treatment and represent just one year of lifelong treatment)

    Or

Provide more than 1 million peer educators with HIV training

    Or

Provide a year’s worth of school materials and daily hot meals for more than 35,000 children orphaned by AIDS

    Or

Provide more than 650,000 Rapid Tests which detect HIV and deliver instant test results.

We've also learned that the Gap (PRODUCT) RED INSPI(RED) T-shirt Oprah wore on her Oct 13th show was the best selling item across the entire Gap brand for the month of October.

The Motorola RED RAZR will hit store shelves nationwide at Sprint and all US Cellular stores in early November. Through limited distribution in Chicago in October, the RED RAZR has been selling at more than twenty times the average rate of RAZRs sold through US Cellular channels.

Check back tomorrow afternoon - I'll have some other great (PRODUCT) RED partner news to share with you.
