African Miracle

Bobby just emailed us a link to a story entitled African Miracle, from the latest (Dec. 4) issue of TIME magazine. The story visits some children in Africa with HIV who, once sickly and frail, are now receiving antiretroviral medicine and can go on living as little kids.

But as the story says, the work is just beginning. Because of the people buying (RED) products (you!), (RED) sends money to the Global Fund so that doctors in Africa can perform their lifesaving work. We love reading stories like this because it gives us hope.

Be sure to take a look at the amazing bef0re-and-after photos of an 8-year-old boy named Bokang.

Also, if you missed seeing the Los Angeles Times' front page photo of "ORPHANS OF AIDS" and the accompanying photo essay, go to latimes.com/aids for the online photo gallery. There are some truly moving, beautiful pictures.

Everytime I read news like this it makes me feel proud and happy for being part of such an amazing movement.

I hope this is just one of the many stories to come out to public to show and we can make a huge diference in this fight for life in Africa with something so simple like shopping and spreading the word.

Congratulations once again!

We spent time in Lewa Downs, Kenya this summer. It was a humbling experience. It galavnizes the desire to make a difference personally.

I am so disappointed that we can't at this juncture get an American Express RED card as the product is only available in the UK, I hope this will change.

We also will be working on charitable auctions on ebay with the help of Auctioncause, US. I'd love to see some of our Chanel and Hermes items profit your drive at RED.

Bravo to your committment. www.yumyumcherry.com

I love your RED products and plan to purchase some items for Christmas. I also wrote an article about the products and what you guys are trying to do on Associated Content. Thank you and please keep up the excellent work.

What a wonderful story - it is so important to have people see stories like this to reinforce the idea that we can make a difference.

This quote had particular resonance for me "All the ARVs in the world aren't going to help much if children and their families don't have enough food to build up their strength or clean water to keep from picking up infections."

I'm glad to see the acknowledgement that a holistic approach is needed in order to see sustainable progress in Africa.

Hi bn,

WOW - how can I find the right words to thank Bobby and RED for this AMAZING article and video which went with it?

It is simply beyond words for me right now.

This story so unequivocably shows the LIFE-ENHANCING effect that ARV's can have on a person's body and in a person's life - especially when you have the rest of your life to experience just like this young child.

This is ONE reason why FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THE GLOBAL FUND IS SO ESSENTIAL - the medications that it provides help to keep tens of thousands of Africans alive and healthy to take care of their families and communities.

Many of you at RED know of my longtime connection with Lesotho - of my friends and associates there.

So my heart lept a little further when I saw that Dr. Mark Kline's work in Lesotho for Baylor University's International Pediatric AIDS clinics was a focus of this article.

Dr. Kline has been doing GREAT work for nearly ten years now for children with pediatric AIDS around the world and his efforts should be recognized and lauded.

I have met him several times and can honestly say that he is an angel of mercy in disguise for thousands of children around the world who would have no hope for a better life without the life-saving work that he and his colleagues do for children with pediatric AIDS.

Take very good care of yourselves at RED - and thank you once more, Bobby, for an EXCELLENT article on the struggle to end AIDS and extreme poverty in our world.

Blessings will always be with you.

I AM....ALWAYS FOREVER, ONE - debbie

Hey Bono...

Don't know if you read these comments, but I thought I'd sneak out a little communique from behind the walls (of a major Red company, let us say).

My 'dream' or vision within our company is to see the Red-generated aid dollars in all corporate presentations about how our Red product is doing. This should be side-by-side next to profits and loss. In other words, a 3rd component. Marketing types may equate those dollars to increased product awareness, which is cool with me.

In other words, I'd love to see this RED revolution turned inward to the participating companies themselves, to the point where us employees see our very companies as vehicles for social change.
