SHA(RED) Ideas

Hi! I wanted to share these ideas sent in by fellow (BLOG) RED readers:

(RED) Bracelet:
14 year-old Kiri from San Francisco had a great idea -- she and her mom bought 35 (RED) beaded pins from Gap and created (RED) bracelets. Kiri writes, "The bracelets (pictured) are now a total hit at my school! Everyone wants one, and unlike us kids spending our money on stupid video games and stuff, we are now being in style and helping our world out."

(RED) Blog Badge:
We appreciate our fellow bloggers who are linking to (BLOG)RED. If you want to add some (RED) to your blog or webpage, Tim created this nice (BLOG) RED badge for us.

Click here to get the code needed to place the badge on your page.

Many thanks to Kiri and Tim for sharing their wonderful (RED) creations with us!

If you have a (RED) idea you'd like to share, feel free to post it here.

Talk to you soon!

Colette

Hi. I really enjoy this campaign a lot. I, myself, do not have AIDS, but have always felt very sympathetic towards people with AIDS. I hope it is ok, but as a graphic designer, I have taken it upon myself to support this campaign in the best way I can. Through my xanga, an online blog community, I have dedicated my personal blog that generates decent traffic to the joinred campaign. If you would like to see it, you may view it here (click). I know it isn't much, but it is what I found to be the best way I could help, because I can't purchase many of the (RED) products. If I am accidentily breaking any copyright laws or anything, I am deeply sorry. If such, you can certainly e-mail me at adrianasocialite@aim.com and I will try and fix this error immediately. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment.

this bracelet is a really cool idea! and thank you for the badge, but i built one for my signature back in the beginning. now with my personalized signature (sammi f(red)enburg) i link it to you as well. it's great that they're getting out there. i love that little weemee, but my im's don't support it yet! but everywhere i turn i'm reminded of red. and you're on my mind and in my heart and i'm so proud of this venture.

launch was awesome, absolutely great. i hope the days get easier for you for a while. for just a while, not too long, but for a while LOL!

ah, stay close,

I love seeing how people are getting creative around the (RED) campaign. The more ways people can get the (RED) idea out in front of people the better.

Wow! Great idea! I bought the bead as well! :D But I didn't buy 35 of them! I do love the idea though! I'm going to the mall this weekend so I hope there are still some left!!

I don't have an idea but I have dedicated my blog to (RED) :D

When I get the time, I will put up the (RED) badge as well!

what a great idea!
i totally understand why these bracelets are a total hit at school. i'm going to take this idea and make it a fashoin statement in florida, and as Kiri said it saves us from wasting all of our money on stupid stuff, and spend it on something more meaningful.
thanks kiri!

Love the blog badge, just wish it was a littl smaller to fit within a column. I'm not a techy; I don't know how to resize the code.

One other thing... I happen to be a plus-sized woman. I love the Inspi(red) tee-shirts. Despit them being too small for me, I still purchased one for the cause (one day I will wear it!).

Anyway, my question is, has there been any consideration to partnering with say a Lane Bryant to offer these same kinds of shirts to the Plus-size community. I'm telling you, we girls come out for the cause, and Red is missing out on a whole demographic who would buy, buy, buy!

Just a thought.

The bracelet is a really great idea... if playing devils advocate i guess some could say that its simply following on from other "bracelet" ideas and spinoffs from Armstrongs Livestrong Cancer bracelet... but look at how successful that campaign was and the degree of awareness that basically caused the whole world to take a step back and realise the issue. There is nothing wrong with combining issues with fashion because its really just opening the topic to a new audience and market... so i think its a great way to spread the word. Also love the banner, will be putting one on my next blog update and will dedicate a blog to raise awareness of your campaign through my spot - www.chickontheroad.blogspot.com

Thanks for taking the time to read my comment! :)

I like the bracelets

...better than the whole consumer meets conscience thing that is going on with the big corporations...I'd be more impressed if the companies said don't buy this, it's the price of X amount of medical care for X number of people with Aids...but because companies are legally required to make a profit...they do and then-some...and we the consumer aid and abet in this endeavour and salve our consciences by buying a more 'ethical' version of a product we don't need while people are going without basic living conditions and the medical care that they actually do need...

Its a pity the bracelets are bought from another large company which doesn't need the income from those beads while they probably cost more than a dollar - the average daily wage of 1 Billion people in the world...when they could have been made out of some recycled material...but compared to all the expensive techno gear this site is trying to sell it kinda is the lesser of 2 evils...

...but the bracelets are nice!

I love the bracelet idea... they were sold out of the pins at the Gap store here, so I was only able to buy one that happened to be lying around. If they're ever back in stock, I'll buy lots more!

Not a really creative idea, but I was just thinking of bumper stickers. If there were cool bumper stickers, I'd put it on my car (my car is red).

I think its great that your trying to help change the world, but...
Your sending money out to Africa when there are a countless number of homeless people here in your own country that won't have anything to eat tonight and won't have a warm place to sleep tonight. Like i said i think its great that your trying to make a positive change in the world, but maybe you should concentrate your extra time and money into helping the people down the street.
I'm going to put a link of your site on my blog because like I said, I think its great that you care enough to try really hard to make the world a better place.

Will not only save lives in Africa but may save my own...

Hi, I was looking on the internet for the new Ipod Nano 4GBs and someone had listed a RED one on ebay. I quickly checked applestore.co.uk to make sure I wasn't seeing things I didn't think they made red. Discovered it was part of (Product)Red which I had seen advertised before.

I decided to pay the full whack for the RED Ipod as the extra money will go to this great cause.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to be asked to engrave my new Ipod as I weant through the purchase process online.

I've been diagnosed with Diabetes recently and need to get a Medical ID bracelet or necklace but my Type hasn't been properly diagnosed yet and this is important information I need before I purchase a medical ID tag.

Then the penny dropped. I've had my new Ipod engraved with my name, the word Diabetic and my husband's mobile number. As an interim solution to a medical ID bracelet.

Now this won't replace a proper Medical ID tag but if I should happen to have a Hypoglycemic attack and be unable to speak (which has happened to me)I could perhaps show it to someone who could call my husband for me. Or if I were perhaps unconcious a medical professional would see it around my kneck or wrist.

So thank you RED!

Michaela, London

I'd really like to see web bands like the ones made for the One campaign for websites. (The little bands up in the right or left corner of the sites.) They could be red with the white text. One could say Inspi(red), another Admi(red), another Desi(red), another Empowe(red).

Hi --

How about (RED)bush? (aka Rooibos or Red Tea -- it's a traditional South African herbal tea).

I think you should have shirts with these words printed on them, if you don't already (It is really hard on the GAP site to see what the most of the shirts say) :

CA(RED)

HONO(RED)

REMEMBE(RED)

ADO(RED) (Valentines t-shirt?)

ADVENTU(RED)

DA(RED)

ENDEA(RED)

ENDEAVOU(RED)

ENRAPTU(RED)

EMPOWE(RED)

VOLUNTEE(RED)

MENTO(RED)

PERSERVE(RED)

RETI(RED) (many people are retiring these days)

Enjoyed reading the ideas. As Canadian who has been to South Africa, Swaziland, and Mozambique this year, I am encouraged that North Americans are waking up to the emergency in sub-Saharan Africa.

Mike Todd, a fellow Canadian, has a great idea for Sha(Red). For $10 (just ten bucks...Canadian!) you can join Mike, myself, and others in doing something to fight AIDS in Africa that doesn't (necessarily) include red Gap products.

To make a donation, go directly to Mike blog at http://miketodd.typepad.com. It takes 3 minutes, or much less if you already have a PayPal account.

To find out more, you can read about it at his blog or at ours: http://www.gowellstaywell.blogspot.com.

Spread the word. Add a link. Thanks.

I was on Gap.com looking over the (PRODUCT)RED apparel and I was thinking that there should be a shirt with the word: FEATHE(RED) on it and have angel wings on the back...the symbolizm would be that 1. the persons wearing the shirt - are angels for joining in the (RED) battle and caring for others 2. the persons being helped by the proceeds are angels themselves. Ok, maybe it's a cheesy idea but...MAYBE NOT.
